Can you put a suppressor on a non threaded barrel?
That is a question we are often asked. And normally, the answer is “no, you can’t”. During shooting, the detonation gases suddenly fill the silencer, creating a rip off effect. A strong forward traction. To resist this, a thread is required. But in the case of a pellet gun or a .22 LR rifle, we can make an exception. The pressure at the muzzle is so low that it is possible to contain it with a few cross screws well tightened. So here’s our silencer adapter for non threaded barrel.
Be careful, since it slips directly on the barrel, it is obligatory that this barrel has at least 3 cm (1.2″) of free cylindrical diameter. No taper angle, no front sight. If this is the case for yours, then all you’ll have to do is buying a compatible silencer in a gunshop.
But remember : no centerfire ammunition, .22 LR or .17 HMR maximum!
Features of the silencer adapter for non threaded barrel
We machine this part from 7075 T6 aluminum with our CNC machines.
The external diameter of .22 LR or air rifle barrels varies. So we produce this custom adapter in a whole scale of internal diameters, to match the one you have. By clicking the dropdown menu to the right of the picture, you will find that we go from half-millimeter to half-millimeter (11 mm, 11.5 mm, 12 mm, 12.5 mm and so on). So measure the diameter at the muzzle of your rifle with a caliper, and choose the closest one, rounded up.
Example: For a diameter of 12.2 mm, choose 12.5 mm. Our friends who are not familiar with the metric system will find here a converter from inch to mm.
Once you’ve chosen the right size, you can put the adapter on your weapon and secure it with the six M4 screws provided. They are positioned at 120 degrees (3 rows of 2 screws) to allow perfect tightening symmetry.
Which thread to choose? 1/2×20 TPI or 1/2×28 TPI ?
We manufacture this silencer adapter for non threaded barrel in two different output threads. The 1/2 UNF (also known as 1/2×20 TPI) and the 1/2 UNEF (also known as 1/2×28 TPI).
► The 1/2 UNF is the most common in Europe for .22 LR rifles. So it’s in this one that you’ll find more compatible silencers in the old continent.
► On the other hand, the 1/2 UNEF is the most common in USA, for .22 caliber weapons in the broadest sense. If you’re American, then this is the one you should choose.
Note that good silencer manufacturers produce their suppressors in both threads.
To preserve the thread of the silencer adapter for non threaded barrel when no suppressor occupies it, we invite you to consider purchasing also a thread protector 1/2 UNF or 1/2 UNEF.
